Shocked The unit (still vacant) opposite mine caught fire (between the main door and the grill door). Nobody knew when or how it happened. But at the time the resident who leaves upstair discovered that and called on the security guard, it was about 6:30 p.m. (the same time I return home) I believe that the fire has started quite some time ago, since the grill door was flaming hot!
Confused: Bugging points:
(1) There is no fire hose at this floor (but thank God there is a fire extinguisher)
(2) The security guard do not know how to operate the fire extinguisher (what are they being paid for? To dress slightly smarter and remember button up their uniform?)
(3) It came to my mind - why there is no fire alarm and emergency water sprinkle system installed. Is this not a compulsary safety system for high rise buildings/ apartments?

goodness gracious!!! we're living in a fire trap!!! mei yee... i think you ought to report the matter to the nearest balai bomba. let them investigate. let them come up with a report. if the developer has failed to provide sufficient safety measures, we'll take them to task.

nothing between the door and grille, there is. a strange incident, this is. hmm...

Unit E-4-10 that it is. Just finish renovation a week ago. The fire was caught at the paint cans left outside the door. What a bummer ... Rolling Eyes

Could it be a cigarette butt thrown into the paint container? I do see some furniture outlets advertising brochures thrown into the respective apartments. The unit opposite mine in Blk C also has this brochure thrown in between the grill and door.
I thought these brochures were supposed to be put in the post boxes?
Did any of you guys got it as well?

it's the safety issue that irks me. as mei yee pointed out, we do not have a fire alarm/sprinkler system. fortunately this was not a major incident. but it could have become one if not for the quick action by the neighbours. think about it... what if something happened in the afternoon when we're all at work. do you think the guards would have noticed? all the more reason why the management should immediately install the fire hose & provide us with a copy of the insurance policy!

I have dropped an e-mail to the Ketua Pengarah Bomba today on this matter. Shall see what will happen. Are we fortunate or what that the LPG services is not in use yet? Can you image fire + gas? We shall all be toasted Shocked

checked out the area yesterday evening. talk about swift action! by the time i went there, the common corridor, grille & main door had already been repainted (although it does appear to be a rush job!). i gather from my observation that there was in fact a key to the fire extinguisher (not all fire extinguishers around the apartment have keys!). anyway, mei yee... perhaps you would like to inform your neighbour about the incident. i believe it will all look as if nothing happened by the end of the week when he/she is likely to inspect the property. can't help but feel incident caused by contractors...

Made a mistake that I have forgotten to take some snapshots that evening of the incident. They covered up their a** real fast, didn't they? Twisted Evil But manage to took several snapshots yesterday on the missing fire hose. Hope this will be good enough when making report at balai bomba.

the committee is following up on the issue of the general fire insurance. in the meantime, miki, you may consider houseowner's insurance to insure your possessions in the apartment. fire insurance does not cover these...
