Ex-Ho Hup MD says suit will clear his name
By B.K. SIDHU

PETALING JAYA: Today is Ho Hup Construction Co Bhd AGM and a question to be raised by some people is whether the company’s former managing director, Datuk Low Tuck Choy, will get enough votes to stay on as director of the company.

Low told StarBiz yesterday that he was seeking election and would attend today’s meeting.

He was suspended as managing director of Ho Hup in early September for certain alleged breach, commission and omission of duties and responsibilities.

Ho Hup, founded by Low’s late father, is a PN17 company with liabilities of over RM100mil. Months ago Extreme System had emerged as the major shareholder with 27.95% stake. The Low family is said to own about 22.66%.

Several other directors - Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzil (chairman), Datuk Vincent Lye, Lee Chong Hoe, Lai Moon Chan, Zainal Abidin Mohd Yusof, Mustapha Mohamed and Faris Najhan Hashim - are also seeking re-election at the AGM in Kuala Lumpur.

Low claimed he had also filed a defamation suit in the High Court of Malaysia on Monday “seeking aggravated damages against two current directors of Ho Hup for defamation alleging that he had breached/neglected his duties and responsibilities.” He said the suit was to clear his name.

Low said he was also removed as director of Bukit Jalil Development, a subsidiary of Ho Hup with 77 acres of mixed residential and commercial land worth about RM300mil, on Monday.
